MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The Festival of the Arts is a free exhibit put on by MPSD students to showcase their artistic talents to the community.

The Meridian Public School District held this annual event at The Max.

“Our vision is to always advocate for the arts and really push to make sure our kids are enjoying the experience, make sure that everybody has an open opportunity to participate in the arts, so what we see today is a really great turnout, and I am really excited to see where the arts go in our district,” says Assistant Director of Bands Joshua Reed.

The students were able to bring their family and friends to the event to witness them singing, playing instruments, and pointing out what art they had the pleasure of creating.

Students and staff from the district are thrilled to be a part of a school system that supports the kids in their arts, no matter what it consists of.

“Oh, it’s great; we see the kids work day in and day out all year long from June and July all the way until now, so it’s great to see these kids being excited and loving what they do every day,” Reed says.

“Honestly, I am really happy about it because other people get to experience the stuff that we do, you know, they are able to witness the songs that we sing and the drawing and crafts and stuff we get to make,” says Lashayla Thomas, Sophmore and Choir student.

For one senior, she is extremely proud to be a part of the Meridian Public School District, as the bonds and music she created will be something that will last a lifetime.

“Honestly, I am going to miss my friends because we created a great bond playing through music. I met a lot of new people, I played a lot of new songs, it was just a great experience overall,” Senior and Band student Amiyah Mcclendon says.
