World Snooker Championship: Ronnie O’Sullivan suggests Crucible needs ‘interior designer’ to improve ‘dated’ feel – Eurosport

Ronnie O’Sullivan has given his views on ways to improve the Crucible to boost its chances of continuing as the home of the World Championship.

The Crucible has played host to the sport’s biggest event since 1977, but the contract is up for renewal in 2027 and there has been talk of World Snooker (WST) taking the World Championship elsewhere.

Barry Hearn, the president of Matchroom Sport which is a majority shareholder in WST, told Eurosport that Sheffield Council must make improvements to the venue amid approaches from overseas interests.

He has revealed that improvements were made for the 2024 tournament, but would like to see things taken up a notch to make life better for the players.

“I think it [the Crucible] is a little bit dated,” O’Sullivan is quoted as saying by Metro. “It could be updated maybe.

“It could have some better facilities in here for the players to relax, and maybe have some nice food at the venue so you don’t have to keep bringing it in.

“I like the way they’ve got the courtesy cars here this year so you don’t have to scrum your way through the venue every time you come here. You don’t mind coming to the venue now. It’s the first time in years, so that’s a real plus.

“I get scones brought to my room before my match and that’s something else you don’t need to worry about.”

While admitting to being happy with the improvements, O’Sullivan would like more to be done to help the players.

“They’ve started to make these little improvements,” O’Sullivan said.

“But if you really put down a wishlist… I think the venue could be more friendly towards players. Relaxation rooms maybe, more practice tables, maybe two more practice tables. Showers maybe, a nice dressing room with showers maybe.

“If you get a clever interior designer or an architect in here you could knock all the walls down and start again.

“Maybe make it bigger and better and more up to date. Who knows?”
