David Corenswet, the newly minted Superman in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy,” has shared an inside look at the rigorous training regimen that transformed him into the iconic superhero. Under the guidance of Los Angeles-based trainer Paolo Mascitti, Corenswet embarked on a challenging journey to achieve the physical stature required to don the legendary cape and suit, according to GQ.

A Rigorous Routine for the Man of Steel

Preparing for his role as Superman required Corenswet to undertake a dedicated and intense fitness plan. Mascitti, known for sculpting Hollywood physiques, tailored a program specifically for Corenswet’s needs, focusing on significant muscle gain and strength. Starting five months before production, Corenswet worked diligently, pushing through two-hour sessions up to four times a week.

“David was naturally lean, standing tall at 6’4″ and weighing about 200 pounds when we started,” Mascitti explained. To fit the superhero mold, Corenswet needed to bulk up considerably. “We aimed to increase his weight to 240 pounds, though we planned to fine-tune and shed some of this to define his tone as filming approached,” Mascitti added. The results were evident as Corenswet managed to pack on 40 pounds of muscle, showcasing the dedication required to transform into Superman.

The fitness regimen emphasized a combination of push days, pull days, and legs days—a cycle they repeated consistently. This approach not only facilitated muscle growth but also ensured that Corenswet’s body could adapt and endure the high demands of his training. “We focused on basic yet powerful movements like presses, pull-ups, pull-downs, and rows. I believe in mastering the exercise, focusing on full range of motion, and progressively increasing the weight,” Mascitti shared.

Balancing Bulk with Agility

While bulk was a significant focus, Corenswet also had to maintain agility and speed, critical attributes for any actor portraying the Man of Steel. This balance was crucial in ensuring that his performance was as dynamic as it was strong. The tailored sessions included cardiovascular work and functional training to enhance his mobility and stamina.

Despite the grueling schedule, Corenswet’s commitment never wavered. “He is extremely dedicated. Even on the busiest days, he found time for the gym, ensuring no setback could hinder his progress,” Mascitti remarked. This dedication extended beyond the gym as Corenswet also adhered to a strict diet plan, consuming around 6,000 calories a day to meet his muscular demands.

Interestingly, Corenswet’s approach to fitness included handling the mental challenges of such a transformation. “Staying consistent was as much a mental challenge as a physical one. David’s ability to stay focused and motivated throughout the process was key to his transformation,” Mascitti observed.

As Corenswet gears up for his debut as Superman, his journey from a lean actor to a superhero physique serves as an inspiring tale of dedication and hard work. His transformation is not just about achieving an aesthetic fit for the big screen but also about embodying the spirit and resilience of one of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history. As fans eagerly await his portrayal of Superman, Corenswet continues to demonstrate that behind every superhero, there is a remarkable dedication to craft and character.
