WESTERLY — John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band, the legendary “East Coast Rock ‘n’ Roll” group who rose to fame in 1972 and achieved mainstream success in the 1980s with the soundtrack for “Eddie & The Cruisers” — will kick off the beach season in Misquamicut Beach this weekend when they perform Friday during opening night of the Misquamicut Business Association’s annual SpringFest.

The weekend-long SpringFest — now in its 14th season — kicks off Friday at Misquamicut State Beach. The event typically attracts thousands of people to Westerly’s shoreline each May for an extravaganza of food, fun, craft sales and music.

The jam-packed weekend full of live music will also include a performance by  A Short Walk to Pluto. From then on, according to organizers, Springfest features “high-gear entertainment,” including a Saturday night headline set from the Undaunted Professor Harp Band, a Ferris Wheel ride, and activities for the whole family.

Look also for a demonstration by Kiefer’s Martial Arts and a Classic Car Show with “The Doc” on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. hosted by The Doc and 102.3FM The Wolf.
