SHADYSIDE — Ten members of the Ohio River and Western Fire District, including the fire chief, were sworn in and had badges pinned over their hearts by family members Wednesday.

“The guys are true professionals that do an outstanding job day in and day out. They are dedicated to serving the community,” Fire Chief R.C. Fellows said of those who were sworn in.

Fellows was sworn in by OR&W Fire Board President Matt Coffland. Fellows, whose badge was pinned by his wife Stephanie, said the board waited more than a year to swear him so that a swearing-in ceremony could be held.

“I got hired in March of last year and one of the things I want to do is the swearing in, and I want to do it right and I want to make sure that everyone in here has their Class A uniforms and badges,” Fellows said. “The other thing is, obviously some of these guys have been hired for almost two years, but I wanted to give them a shot and a privilege to come out here and have their family in this room.”
