‘Megalopolis’ Producer Defends Francis Ford Coppola

‘Megalopolis’ producer Darren Demetre has defended Francis Ford Coppola after a report emerged that he tried to kiss extras on set. Days before premiering his self-funded movie ‘Megalopolis’ at the Cannes Film Festival, The Guardian published a report on his alleged behavior Multiple sources shared with the outlet that Coppola was “old school” towards women. “He allegedly pulled women to sit on his lap, for example. And during one bacchanalian nightclub scene being shot for the film, witnesses say, Coppola came on to the set and tried to kiss some of the topless and scantily clad female extras,” reads The Guardian’s report. The filmmaker allegedly did this to “get them in the mood.” Demetre told The Guardian that Coppola did kiss some of the extras on the cheek in a “friendly” way but never made them feel uncomfortable. “It was his way to help inspire and establish the club atmosphere… I was never aware of any complaints of harassment or ill behavior,” he said.
