(KNSI) – A local brewery served up sublime suds at this year’s World Beer Cup.

Big Lake’s Lupelin Brewing won a silver medal for its Dortmunder drink as a near perfect example of a German-style Oktoberfest lager. The contest had over 9,000 entries in 110 categories. It is considered the Olympics of beer. To be recognized in the World Beer Cup is one of the most coveted achievements in the industry.

Lupelin’s silver medal was one of six awards for brewers across the state. Bent Paddle of Duluth and Minneapolis’ Northbound Smokehouse and Brewpub won golds. Excelsior nabbed a silver for its fruit beer. BeerClub of Mora and Pryes Brewing of Minneapolis snatched bronze medals.

Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild Executive Director Jess Talley exclaims, “These awards reinforce something craft beer fans have known all along: some of the best beer in the world is made right here, by our neighbors and friends, in communities all throughout Minnesota.”

The WBC was held in Las Vegas earlier this week.
