PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Discovery World celebrated May the 4th with a Star Wars Day making lightsabers.

Families gathered around with their kids to make lightsabers on Star Wars Day also known as the common phrase “May the Fourth be with you”.

Lightsabers were made out of flashlights that were torn apart to use for parts and most of the parts used, mostly came from everything that was available within the building.

Doing this allows kids to realize that they can use things lying around the house to create rather than buy things.

“Sort of an experience of what you buy in the store is great sometimes and what you buy at an experience that you go to is great, but there is something special about doing it yourself and building it yourself, or at least understanding how that works because maybe in the future it does spark some interest for the STEM careers and STEM fields that they didn’t really know about or never had a chance to in an environment that is safe and there’s not really a lot that can go wrong.” said Logan Mace, STEAM manager at Discovery World.

Many people were dressed up as Star Wars characters throughout the building for people to get pictures with.
