Internet gambling industry expected to grow

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Internet casino gambling is legal in just seven states, but at a major gambling conference Wednesday, industry executive said the future of gambling is online.

In 2018, the US Supreme Court allowed any state to offer legal sports betting. West Virginia gambling official Shawn Fluharty said those bets “took off like a rocket” but that internet gaming has not followed suit as expected.

Officials said internet gaming is where consumers want the industry to go.

A director at FanDuel said these online games may grow in prominence to help provide state taxes. FanDuel has paid over $3 billion in taxes since 2018, he said, which results in many salaries for teachers, police officers and other public servants.
