How’s your head? Anya Taylor-Joy just got shot by fashion cupid

Someone go check on Anya Taylor-Joy. At the premiere for her new film Furiosa, the Argentine actress showed up with a bunch of golden arrows poking out her body and head. Rather than the handiwork of an overzealous archer on the way to the event, it turns out Taylor-Joy had actually slipped into some vintage Paco Rabanne, courtesy of stylist Ryan Hastings. The gilded minidress is taken from Rabanne’s SS96 couture collection, one that featured the Spanish designer’s signature futuristic armour in various alloys and plastics.

Though Taylor-Joy probably had a tough time getting through the metal detectors at Sydney Kingsford Airport, we know that she wouldn’t have minded – she’s a sucker for a great fashion moment. Just this past February, the actor was one of the first people to wear Maison Margiela’s viral SS24 Artisanal collection on the red carpet, just pipped to the post by Hunter Schafer nine days earlier. At the time, Taylor-Joy’s tiny, corseted waist caused a bit of a stir with pearl-clutching Daily Mail readers, so I wonder what they’re going to think of her Cupid-coded drive-by situation.

Though George Miller’s Mad Max prequel doesn’t come out until May 24, Taylor-Joy has her game face on, already pulling some serious looks for the press tour. Just yesterday, the actor turned up to a photo call alongside Miller and co-star Chris Hemsworth in a blood-red leather skirt and a terracotta draped top, both from Rick Owens. The look came from Owens’ SS24 collection which he debuted last September in Paris, its apocalyptic vibe the perfect match for a film like Furiosa.

Today, in the Rabanne look at the Sydney premiere, Taylor-Joy is once again joined by Hemsworth, who looks decidedly underdressed in comparison. Maybe the pair will end up having a Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet moment, like on their Dune: Part Two press tour? When Zendaya stopped the world with that AW95 Mugler robosuit, the gag was too hard for Timothée to take, and he ended up being consumed by Zendaya’s aura, despite wearing a perfectly OK outfit. But what happened days later? The pair arrived at the next event perfectly matched in his and hers Juun. J jumpsuits. Two queens coming together to maximise their joint slay. Here’s hoping Hemsworth takes some tips out of Timmy’s playbook and arrives with a couple arrows poking out his own head.
