Syracuse, N.Y. — Sherburne-Earlville’s athletic teams will now be known as the Timberwolves.

The district’s school board adopted that moniker to replace its previous nickname, Marauders. The change is effective immediately.

The move comes after the New York State Department of Education ordered all public schools to end the use of nicknames, mascots and logos that depict Native American culture last spring.
