Boy Kills World director Moritz Mohr was initially hesitant about casting Bill Skarsgård in the leading role. Marking a significant departure for Skarsgård, whose career has largely been defined by his roles in drama and horror movies, such as Andy Muschietti’s two-part It adaptation, the new action movie sees the actor play a deaf-mute martial artist bent on revenge against the people responsible for his family’s deaths. While Skarsgård’s character remains silent throughout the movie, his actions are accompanied by a unique inner monologue derived from his favorite childhood video game.

Speaking with Screen Rant about Boy Kills World’s theatrical release, Mohr explained that he was initially reluctant to cast Skarsgård in the action-heavy role. Despite praising his acting skills, Mohr reveals that he was unsure if he could meet the movie’s physical demands. However, Skarsgård committed to an intense training regime, and Mohr even went as far as to say that the actor even “over delivered sometimes.” Check out his comments below:

Bill is a terrific actor. The only thing we weren’t sure at that point was, “Can he deliver on the action?” He basically just promised, “No, I’m gonna put in the work, I’m gonna get ripped, I’m gonna train, and I’m going to learn the choreography.” Which is a huge commitment, because it’s just months and months of training and rehearsing, and I’m so glad that he did it. He over delivered sometimes, he was really committed to it, and I’m very lucky that he was, because I think the results are just phenomenal.

Can Boy Kills World Ease Concern For Bill Skarsgård’s Other Big Action Role?

Boy Kills World Is Not Skarsgård’s Only Action Movie Releasing In 2024.

However, when news first broke that Skarsgård would be the one leading
The Crow
reboot, many were concerned that his lack of martial arts experience would be detrimental to the final product.

While Skarsgård is not completely unfamiliar with appearing in action movies, Boy Kills World is the first time he was able to showcase his action bona fides. With many of Boy Kills World’s reviews citing the actor’s intense performance as the highlight of Mohr’s directorial debut, it would seem the talented performer successfully transitioned into a big-screen action hero. However, questions still surround the actor’s ability to handle another action-heavy role in this year’s The Crow reboot.

Skarsgård played the villainous Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont in
John Wick: Chapter 4.

Set to be released on August 23, The Crow will see Skarsgård continue his action streak and assume the role of Eric Draven once made famous by the late Brandon Lee. However, when news first broke that the Swedish actor would lead The Crow reboot, many people were concerned that his lack of martial arts experience would be detrimental to the final product. By comparison, his predecessor was not only the son of the legendary Bruce Lee but also an accomplished martial artist whose expertise was used in choreographing many of the original movie’s fight scenes.

While much of the backlash directed at Skarsgård’s Eric Draven also relates to his character’s heavily tattooed Joker-like appearance, hopefully, his tenure in Boy Kills World will help ease any worries about his physical abilities. If Mohr’s comments are any indication, Skarsgård’s future as a leading man could certainly see him continue to embrace a much wider range of roles than that of the creepy horror villain.
