Art exhibit, Elvis tribute and comedian moms among entertainment options

Library’s art alcove features textile exhibit

“A Modern Twist on an Ancient Craft,” featuring original works from the local Prairie Fibers Weavers and Spinners Guild, is on display at the Grand Island Public Library through May 28.

The exhibit features a unique blend of handmade textiles of various techniques and styles including hand-dyed tapestry; hand-spun yarn; felting; Fair Isle and Shetland knitting; overshot, twill, and ikat weaving; crochet and more.

An artists’ reception is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the library, 1124 W. Second St.

The display is open during regular library hours, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

CCC’s Gordan to speak at Crane Trust

Ash Gordan, a sustainability professional with Central Community College, will be the featured speaker for Crane Trust’s May Potluck Speaker series.

The program is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 (note the change of date due to the primary election).

Gordon will speak about capturing wild honey bees. He is a beekeeper and this is his third year taking care of honeybees. He is also an avid gardener, an amateur mycologist, and says he “has a passion for learning about the natural world.”

A potluck meal will precede the film starting at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share if you wish. Drinks, silverware and plates will be provided.

Get ready for Music Bingo!

Do you like music of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s? Do you like Bingo? How about winning prizes? If so, you’ll love Music Bingo!

Music Bingo is a cross between Bingo and “Name that Tune” where players work together to identify song names, then mark the song titles off Bingo cards.

Tabitha at Prairie Commons will host Music Bingo from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16. Everyone is invited to this free community event and snacks and prizes will be provided.

Tabitha at Prairie Commons will also host a 10-point pitch party from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.

Tabitha at Prairie Commons is located at 3490 Ewoldt St., just west of Grand Island Regional Hospital. No RSVPs needed for either event.

“Guaranteed to make you laugh, and maybe pee your pants, these two dive in to all things womanhood, motherhood and friendship,” according to a press release. “There are new things to talk about and some old things to talk about in new ways like surviving marriage, fashion, and the tween-teen years. These two may be older but they are only getting better. Or bitter. Let’s go with better.

“‘Let’s all get together and find a way to laugh at the stuff that usually makes us cry.’ This show is rowdy, raucous and a little bit naughty. Get a group of your lady friends, or fly solo, you can even bring your husband (make sure he sits in the front row) and get ready to laugh.” Note: This show is for adults age 18 and older.

This weekend at the Grand …

“The Fall Guy” will be held over this weekend at the Grand Theatre, 316 W. Third St. Showtimes are 7:15 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

After leaving the business one year earlier, battle-scarred stuntman Colt Seavers springs back into action when the star of a big studio movie suddenly disappears. As the mystery surrounding the missing actor deepens, Colt soon finds himself ensnared in a sinister plot that pushes him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.

This film is rated PG-13 for action and violence, drug content and some strong language. Running time is just over two hours.
