UT Tyler softball wins super regional, headed to third straight World Series

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The UT Tyler Patriots are headed to their third straight NCAA Division II World Series after defeating Oklahoma Christian 3-0 on Wednesday.

Former Spring Hill Lady Panther Sam Schott led the game off with a walk. Later in the inning, Courtney Plocheck singled up the middle to bring in Schott and give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 until the 5th inning. Cassidi Mullen laid down a bunt, and Michelle Arias came around to score on a throwing error. Later in the inning, Clarisa Zapata hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought in Mullen to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead.

Those three runs would be all UT Tyler needed. Christin Haygood got the win in the circle. Haygood pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and no runs. Kaylee Davis came in to shut the door in the seventh inning and send the Patriots to the World Series.

The NCAA Division II World Series begins on Sunday May 19.
