A restaurant and dental office could be coming to a shopping center being built on Aiken’s Southside.

The Aiken Planning Commission voted 6-0 Tuesday evening to recommend that Aiken City Council approve a revision to the concept plan for the Lowe’s Foods shopping center

Formally known as The Junction Shopping Center it is located near the northeast corner of the Whiskey Road and Powderhouse Road intersection.

The revised concept plan calls for the construction of a single building on a 1.63-acre outparcel along Whiskey Road between the Circle K and a planned entrance to the grocery store.

The building would be divided into two 4,000-square-foot sections. One of which would be the location of a “nationally known high-turnover sit down restaurant” and a “nationally known” dental office, according to information submitted to the Planning Commission.

John Engler of shopping center developer McKnight Properties told the Planning Commission he couldn’t publicly reveal the names of either business.

Access for the building will be through the planned grocery store entrance road. No access will be permitted from Whiskey Road.

The concept plan shows a connection to the Circle K but this will also not be permitted.

The concept plan calls for 76 parking spots.

Commissioner Sam Erb made a motion to recommend approval.

Commissioner Clayton Clarkson seconded his motion.
