TSSAA football playoffs roundup: Houston denies Ravenwood’s championship-game berth

Ravenwood’s chance for the program’s first TSSAA football championship appearance since 2019 slipped away in the closing minutes as Houston handed the Raptors their first loss of the season, 24-21, in a Class 6A state semifinal Friday.

Ravenwood’s final possession started at its own 3-yard line with 47 seconds left. But Femi Babalola’s first-down pass was picked off by Houston’s Ladeadrick James to seal the Mustangs win. Houston (12-2) will defend last year’s 6A title in a rematch with Oakland (13-1) on Dec. 7 in Chattanooga.

Babalola was 12-of-19 for 116 yards while Maverick Chance ran 14 times for 125 yards and a pair of 3-yard TDs for Ravenwood (13-1). The game was scoreless after the first quarter but both teams traded touchdowns for much of the second half.

Houston wideout Andre Allen caught three touchdowns, including the go-ahead TD, a 8-yard strike from Chandler Day with 4:01 left. Day was 10-of-22 for 119 yards while Allen had 68 yards receiving, including a 33-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter.

Oakland 21, Maryville 13: Kyler Creasy was 7-of-10 passing for 152 yards and Daune Morris had 21 carried for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead Oakland (13-1). Craig Tutt added 132 yards on three catches and 70 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for the Patriots. Will Jones was 15-of-25 passing for 189 yards and had 11 carries for 15 yards and a touchdown for Maryville (12-2).

Sevier County 45, Oak Ridge 34: Cooper Newman was 22-of-29 passing for 321 yards and five touchdowns for Sevier County (14-0). Hayden Akers caught four passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns and Parker Newman and Roman Gibbons each caught a pass for a score. Blaine Stansberry was 12-of-18 passing for 242 yards with four touchdowns and an interception and Damillyan Porter rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for Oak Ridge (9-5).
