There’s No Need To Wait To Play ‘Hades 2’ Early Access Ahead Of 1.0 Release

Hades 2 has just launched in Early Access, the same path the first game took ahead of its release, but now things are different because well, everyone knows just how awesome Hades is already.

The game is now purchasable for $30 on Steam, though I know even some Hades superfans are nervous about playing this “unfinished” version now, and think they may want to wait until the eventual, undated 1.0 release. I actually was leaning toward that myself, until I learned more. A few reasons:

  • First, Hades developer Supergiant has said they are going to try to make sure that everyone carries over their progress from Early Access to launch, which was my biggest fear, as I wouldn’t want to lose my progress.
  • Second, while the narrative of the story is unfinished, that’s actually part of the fun as you can play the first bit now and then the journey will continue later on. At least that’s how I view it.
  • Third, there is significant, fun content to play right now. Some estimates are 25-30 hours before you may start running out of stuff to do.
  • Fourth, even in early access, Hades 2 has more animation and voicework than Hades 1 in its entirety, with no doubt more to come in 1.0.

To me, all of those reasons are more than convincing to simply log on and play Hades 2 now, even if it’s not yet upgraded into its final form. We simply don’t know how long it’s going to take to get to 1.0, and especially if progress carries over, there doesn’t seem to be a real reason to wait for the final draft.

Hades 1’s early access period was two years, and while I would not expect things to go that long this time, given the lessons learned from the first game, you might be waiting a very long time to play while everyone else will have dozens of hours in. And it will probably be decently hard to dodge any spoilers for that amount of time.

I am about to start playing as soon as I’m done with work today, and again, I really just wouldn’t do this to yourself. If you have been looking forward to Hades 2 I would absolutely just jump in now rather than torture yourself with an indefinite waiting period.
