The Lumberyard brings entertainment and economic growth to Canyon

CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – A new development has come to the City of Canyon that’s looking to attract visitors with a love for music.

The Lumberyard is the Panhandle’s newest concert venue and it is officially open right off of I-27 in Canyon.

Josh Abbott Band took to the stage a couple weekends ago for its first concert.

“We had 3,000 people here that evening,” said Roger Remlinger, entertainment director, The Lumberyard.

Many concert attendees were from other towns. With an increase in travelers to Canyon, the Lumberyard is already bringing economic growth.

“We were asking some of the restaurants and boutiques, they came in. Some of the hotels said that they were staying there, the Airbnb’s were full, so that is going to be a huge part of the economic growth,” said Stephanie Tucker, executive director, Canyon EDC.

There are many more concerts to come. A restaurant and event center are also being built on-site.

“We want to be the premier entertainment venue in the Panhandle. So whether that’s having your Christmas party event here, a concert or enjoying football, sports and the great food we are going to have here. We want to be the spot in the Panhandle,” said Remlinger.

The Canyon EDC believes the venue will also improve quality of life for Canyon.

“Now we have something to do. Not only is it for our residents, but for those in the surrounding areas, but when you are coming to Palo Duro Canyon and staying the night looking for something else to do,” said Tucker.

Casey Donahew will be the next concert at The Lumberyard on Friday, June 7.
