TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Smith County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday morning to approve a tax abatement for a business expanding to the new Tyler Interstate Commerce Park.

BraunAbility currently employes 68 workers at its manufacturing facility on SH 64. The company is considered to be the market leader in automobile mobility products for people with disabilities.

The company plans on expanding its Smith County operations to the new commerce park at I-20 and SH 155. They’re working with SunCap Property Group to construct a 140,000 square foot building on approximately 29 acres. The new center is expected to add 74 new jobs with an average annual salary of $53,000.

A unanimous vote from county commissioners was the final step in having a 10-year tiered tax abatement approved for both the company and the property owners. The agreements will take effect Jan. 1, 2026. The tax abatements agreed to are as follows:

  • Four years – 80%
  • Two years – 60%
  • Two years – 40%
  • Two years- 20%

As an example of their need for additional space, the company recently stored hundreds of vans at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.
