ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Ahead of President Joe Biden’s upcoming Morehouse College commencement speech and just after his wife dropped by for a visit, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff made a trip to Atlanta Tuesday.

Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, made a visit to Sublime Doughnuts in Midtown. He spoke with owner Kamal Grant, discussing support for small business owners like himself.

“Small business is tough because obviously any business you’re opening you’re competing against legacy businesses who’ve been there and who have all the capital, all the political clout,” said Grant.

Grant explained the difficulties are especially prevalent among the Black community, as many struggle to attain resources to keep their businesses afloat.

“Having access to capital is very hard in our community. You know, we don’t really have that generational wealth, so building upon that and really having the access to learn about where to get that capital,” Grant said.

Emhoff’s next stop was The Gathering Spot in northwest Atlanta. The second gentleman joined a roundtable discussion with young voters on reproductive rights, which included members of the group Men 4 Choice.

“Regarding the situation at hand, I’m very on edge, really just for my kid’s future. The America that I grew up in, how would that America be so different?” said DeVon Lewis with Men 4 Choice.
