Watson’s pursuit of becoming the best in the world does not end with training.

In a bid to converse with some of the fastest climbers in the world, he’s currently on a 500-day streak of learning Indonesian.

“I like learning languages,” he revealed to the TNRC podcast.

“I think I have a very good memory so I can learn words really fast.

“I think it’s something that has been really useful, travelling on the World Cup circuit [and being] able to have an extra level of communication with other people.”

That, and some lessons in German too, is all about his commitment to learning something new every day.

“The idea of improvement where every single event there is something that wasn’t perfect and there was something that we can break down,” he shared with Olympics.com.

“I try to figure out the mistakes, why it went wrong and what I could do better next time,” the teenager said.
