As the top players compete at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, there is a second PGA Tour event happening in Puerto Rico.
The Puerto Rico Open will play host to the opposite-field event where a win for one of the up-and-coming players could be life-changing.
Bettors will be looking to find an edge while the casuals are focused on the tournament in the states.
Let’s take a look at where the market currently stands.
There is no surprise that 21-year-old Akshay Bhatia, who is in his third year as a professional golfer, is the most popular bet at BetMGM. He competed in the Honda Classic last week, making the cut before stumbling during the weekend.
Bhatia is getting 7.1% of the bets and accounts for 9.3% of the handle. He has gone from +2800 to +2500 while becoming the second-biggest liability for BetMGM at the Puerto Rico Open.
The largest liability for BetMGM is Austin Eckroat. Though he has missed four straight cuts on the PGA Tour, the former Oklahoma State standout is one of the most talented players in the field. Eckroat has moved from +6600 to +3500 at BetMGM; he’s received 5.1% of the tickets and 8.3% of the money.
The third-biggest liability for BetMGM is Brandon Matthews. He opened at +20000, but sportsbooks quickly realized that was a mistake. He’s currently +9000 and is getting 3.4% of the bets and accounts for 2.6% of the handle.
Dylan Wu is getting some action after a top-10 finish at the Honda Classic. He’s receiving 4.4% of the tickets and accounts for 3.5% of the money.
Kevin Roy, Erik Barnes and Carl Yuan are three other names getting interest from bettors at the Puerto Rico Open.
