Officials arrest 2 men on gambling charges in Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) – Auburn officials arrested two men on gambling charges on Tuesday.

According to authorities, on May 14, 30-year-old Rifat Hassan and 62-year-old Robert Levett, both from Auburn, were arrested on gambling charges. Officials says this arrest comes from an investigation involving an illegal gambling operation located at a local business at 2400 block of East Glenn in Auburn.

On May 8, Auburn detectives developed a search warrant at the business. During the search, officials say they found multiple gambling machines. According to police, Levett was the sole employee operating the business at the time of the search warrant and was arrested on a conspiracy to promote gambling charge.

Later investigation also reveled, currency was obtained from the gambling machines and evidence showed the machines were used to yield illegal profits. Officials say Hassan was identified as the owner and beneficiary of the illegal proceeds generated from the gambling machines. Authorities charged Hassan with conspiracy to promote gambling and possession of a gambling device.

Hassan was transported to Lee County Jail and is held on a $600 bond.
