Nintendo will join other video game publishers by holding a showcase in June to reveal upcoming games.

In a statement published to X / Twitter, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, announced a Nintendo Direct for June that will focus on Switch games due out during the latter half of 2024. The Direct will not, however mention the just-confirmed Nintendo Switch successor console.

“We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.

The Nintendo Direct will hopefully give Switch owners a clear idea of what to expect from the console’s twilight years as attention turns to the Switch 2, reportedly due out spring 2025. While Nintendo has announced a number of games due out in the coming months, the lineup for the rest of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025 is yet to be set out. “Moving forward, we will continue to work to maximize software sales in an environment where many people continue playing Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo said in its financial report.

So, what can we expect? Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is planned for release on May 23, and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on June 27. Looking further ahead, and with the June Direct in mind, Nintendo has Pokémon Legends: Z-A for 2025, as well as Professor Layton and the New World of Steam also due out that year. The long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 is still down as a Switch game in Nintendo’s financial reports, although it has a ‘TBA’ release window. Last week, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition popped up on the ESRB’s website with a rating for the unannounced Switch game. Perhaps it also will be shown off during the Nintendo Direct.

June looks set to be packed with video game announcements, with the aforementioned Nintendo Direct joining an Xbox Games Showcase from Microsoft, a Ubisoft Forward broadcast, Summer Game Fest, and of course, IGN Live.
