This offseason, the New York Giants are seeing plenty of their offensive weapons from last season hitting the free agent market, but none of them are more important than quarterback Daniel Jones. And while it’s clear that signing Jones to a new contract is a high priority for the team, that doesn’t make the contract negotiations any easier.
During an appearance on the NFL Network during the NFL Combine, Giants General Manager Joe Schoen was asked about the status of the contract negotiations with Daniel Jones. And while he did call the conversations “productive,” it also sounds like there’s quite a long way to go for the two sides to come to an agreement.
“You’re starting to feel the time crunch a little bit,” Schoen said according to Pro Football Talk. “I wish we were a little bit closer on a deal than what we are right now. But again, there’s still time. We’re gonna circle back up again today at some point and meet with his representatives.”
It’s a pretty big and concerning update on his contract situation, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it.
lmao what do they be talking about 3 days in a row. More money? No More money? nah More… money? Hmm https://t.co/tyDo1VIYMG

Giants are an org that can be held hostage by Daniel Jones. These MFs ain’t winning anything significant anytime soon. https://t.co/WBJNBSr2o6

The Giants could still place a franchise tag on Jones this season, but that would likely mean the team would need to work out a new deal with star running back Saquon Barkley, who is also a free agent this offseason.
It’s certainly a concerning situation for Giants fans to have neither of their star players under contract currently.
