Met Gala: Sam Smith calls for fashion houses to be more size-inclusive

Sam Smith is calling for change in the fashion industry as they grace the Met Gala for the first time ever.

The “Stay With Me” singer showed up to fashion’s biggest night wearing a custom creation by their partner, Christian Cowan. Smith donned a black suit paired with a chiffon skirt overlay.

“I couldn’t have dreamed of a better companion for the occasion,” Smith told Vogue. “I think of the Gala as fashion Christmas—just as fabulous and just as serious, given the incredible work done at the Met.”

In the interview with one of Vogue’s hosts for the evening, Ashley Graham, the Grammy award winner also expressed their desire to see more fashion houses expand options for all body sizes.

Graham immediately identified with Smith’s sentiment and the two bonded about exclusion of certain body types in fashion. But Smith didn’t let any of that stop them and Cowan from making a fierce fashion debut. The couple, who have been dating since last year, both stepped on the carpet in their sleek tuxedos.

Smith expressed their excitement about attending fashion’s biggest night and getting a glimpse of what’s to come inside.
