PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) – High school seniors attending the Mercer County Technical Education Center were recognized for accepting employment, furthering their education and joining the military after graduation. The recognition was part of the center’s signing day.

Two separate events were held for the students on Tuesday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Students who signed planned to attend school like Bluefield State University and Concord University. Some plan on pursuing education in fields like nursing and engineering while others plan to attend the technical center after graduation.

Others planned to attend schools like New River Community and Technical College and Roanoke College.

Typically signing days are held for athletes but students say it’s good to be recognized for their commitments away from sports.

“I’m just happy that everybody got to go to their dream college and that everybody got recognized,” said Dexter Simon.

Simon currently attends Bluefield High School and after graduation will be attending Fairmont State University to pursue a degree in secondary education.
