Matters of Graves Importance: Entertainment all weekend at Feast of the Flowering Moon

It is no secret to folks that I wear many hats in life. On any given day you can find me working at least three different types of gigs. Nothing and I mean nothing terrifies me more than being at a nine-to-five professional event and hearing someone I don’t know say, “I’ve seen you perform comedy before.” My mind immediately starts rolling through show audiences trying to recall their face in my memory. At that point, the interaction always moves in a different direction…by my directing. It is like being in my own personal eclipse but without canceling schools or closing businesses. It is scary for a few minutes, everything goes dark, but eventually the conversation comes back around. Great entertainment is becoming the norm in Chillicothe. Check out these upcoming happenings.

The Feast of the Flowering Moon Main Stage

All weekend you can find great music at the Feast. Friday features Greg Higley at 8 p.m. On Saturday you can find Mackenzie Mash, Yoctangee Fire, and Moose Miller in that order from 2:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the stage features Zion Baptist Praise Team, Ashley Huffer Trio, and 7 Miles Bluegrass. All shows are free to attend.

Thursday

Stockroom601 in Jackson at 7 p.m. is where you can find me hosting trivia. Trivia is happening locally at Old Capitol Brewing at 6:30 p.m. This week their topic will be the Thor Tetralogy of Films.

Friday

DJ Travis Velarde returns to Steiner’s Speakeasy from 6 to 10 p.m. on the patio. Murphy takes the taproom stage at Old Capitol Brewing at 7 p.m. Heroes Pub Pizza & Subs has Karaoke Krazy Entertainment starting at 8 p.m.

Saturday

Sugarloaf Shakedown throws music tonight at Southern Ohio Axe Throwing from 8 to 11 p.m. The PSB Trio head to Naz Vineyard and Winery at 7 p.m. Drive down 23 to Heroes Pub Pizza & Subs for their second night of entertainment this weekend with Mulgee Run at 8 p.m.

Looking ahead

Barn on Blain Comedy returns on June 8 at 8 p.m. Join us for headliner Jeffrey Jena featuring Jessica Graue. Hosted by me, this event is BYOB. Up In Smoke food truck will be on location for your dining needs. The show is 21 and up. Tickets are on Eventbrite and can be located by searching LoriG Comedy. Tables of 8 and single tickets are being offered. Grab your tickets soon before the show sells out.

June 22 sees comedy back on Terrace 27 at The Pour House at Machinery Hall. Chillicothe’s only rooftop comedy show returns with a great lineup of Cincinnati’s finest, headliner Jay Armstrong featuring Misty Vaccariello. Hosted by me. Tickets are available at www.pouronchillicothe.com and will sell fast as seating is limited. Join me for another great night of entertainment at the Pour House.

On May 29, 2015 my earliest version of this column, La Vida Lori, was first published. Shout out to then CG editor Mike Throne for taking a chance on me when no one else in Chillicothe would. All anyone else could see was a loudmouth comic who said bad words on and off stage but Mike saw past that. He knew I had more to give to our community. I will always be grateful to him for allowing my voice to be heard in print.

Until next time. I hope to see you out laughing.
