ELLSWORTH, Maine (WABI) – A global organization will be bringing people together in more than 500 cities around the world to do one simple thing — walk together.

Nearly 50 will be happening here in Maine including in Ellsworth.

This will be the third year Ellsworth has participated in Jane’s Walk.

Back in 2006, friends of the late writer and activist Jane Jacob’s started the walk in Toronto in her honor.

She was dedicated to helping build up communities.

There are two walks happening in Ellsworth on Saturday.

Heart of Ellsworth have partnered with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society for the event.

“We want people to get out and engage with this place they call home, this place they live in and work in, and not just engage with the place, engage with people, with their neighbors, with their, with their community, and develop, if they don’t have already, a sense of pride for where they’ve chosen to live and work,” said Zabet NeuCollins with the Heart of Ellsworth.

The morning walk is all about nature and starts at 10:00 a.m. at the River Walk North trail head, behind the Ellsworth Public Library.

The second walk is all about historical Ellsworth and starts at 3:00 p.m. at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street.

You can find more info about the walks and register at https://www.heartofellsworth.org/
