Inaugural sports convention to come to metro Detroit this summer

As Detroit comes off the excitement of the NFL draft and strong Lions season, the region will welcome a new sports show, complete with athlete photo opportunities and trading cards.

The inaugural Detroit Sports Spectacular will be in Novi this June, with vendors specializing in cards, collectibles, framing, autographs, photography opportunities and more. This includes auction houses, grading card companies and authenticators.

Celebrity athlete guests

Renowned athletes will make appearances, including from local teams. Sports fans will get to meet their favorite athlete for an autograph and photo opportunity, at a cost.

The show’s first day will see an appearance by former Detroit Red Wings player Vladimir Konstantinov, with $40 trading cards, $50 flats, pucks or jerseys, $100 for a multi-signed item and $40 photo opportunities.

Football legends

The second day will feature former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders, with $175 and $200 trading cards, $175 photo opportunities and more. Former NFL quarterback Joe Montana will offer $279 trading cards, $279 photo opportunities, $649 combo items and more. Former Michigan State Spartans player Kirk Cousins will have $149 trading cards, $149 photo opportunities and more.

Baseball and hockey veterans

The show will wrap up with baseball and hockey stars on its third day. Former MLB outfielder Andre Dawson will offer $60 trading cards and baseballs, $60 photo opportunities and more. Former MLB pitcher Goose Gossage will have $49 trading cards and baseballs, $49 photo opportunities and more.

How to buy tickets

Pre-sale tickets will be available online starting April 29. Admission tickets will also be for sale in person, cash only. Tickets will be $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 10 and under and children ages five and under free. A weekend pass will be $40 and a Friday pass with early entry will be $25.

Event schedule

The Detroit Sports Spectacular will be June 7-9 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

The weekend show will run 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for general admission. VIP timing will be 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
