The thriving Broughtons Flare should make a bold bid for the four-timer, while Luna Magic (second choice) and Pessoa also have something to recommend them. INEXPLICABLE has unappealing formfigures but there’s a suspicion he is still in fair form and this return to Wolverhampton could have a positive effect. He’s worth chancing in a change of headgear.
This looks a weak seller so a market move for newcomer Willow Baby, who is bred to be better than a plater, would look significant. Without any betting clues the suggestion is LEXINGTON HERO, who offered enough in maiden company on debut to think he could make a major impact in a race like this.
Ramensky looks sure to make a bold bid but he did look slightly awkward under pressure at two, particularly on his final start, so he’s taken on with Andrew Balding’s Kempton runner-up GREEN MACHINE.
With the Clive Cox team in good form it might be worth taking a chance on the returning FERNANDO RAH who can be made to look well treated on his AW form last winter. The thriving Alligator Alley is second choice ahead of Bedford Flyer who may be able to lead from stall 2.
Wyvern (second choice) shaped well after a break last month and can get closer to Intervention with that run behind him. Follow Your Heart has more on his plate today than when easily landing a Class 5 here last month and perhaps GOBI SUNSET will be the answer. He has been off for 260 days but has gone well fresh previously and is interesting on the pick of last winter’s form.
This looks competitive for the grade, with most of the field coming here in top form. Hooves Like Jagger ought to run well in a race he won last year off a higher mark, while Hooflepuff, Starfighter and Trusty Scout all have something to recommend them. Johnny Boom (second choice) is greatly respected in his current form but CRYSTAL GUARD (NAP) knuckled down well to win at Newcastle last month and he can make it 3-4 since fitted with cheekpieces.
Although ZUMAATY isn’t entirely straightforward (tends to hang left) he may have just needed his latest outing after a short break and will go very well if recapturing the form he showed when narrowly denied here in November. Mcqueen is second choice ahead of Hot Day.
