Gov. Kelly requests Small Business Administration disaster loan declaration for Pottawatomie County

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Governor Laura Kelly requested the Small Business Administration disaster loan declaration for Pottawatomie County, Kan.

According to the Kansas Division of Emergency Management officials, Governor Kelly sent a letter for the Small Business Administration, which requests a disaster laon declaration for Pottawatomie County as a result of the April 30 tornado that impacted Westmoreland. The letter requests that the SBA provide assistance in the form of SBA disaster loans.

Kansas Division of Emergency Management officials indicated damage assessment was conducted to determine the extent and type of disaster assistance necessary to assist with recovery efforts. If approved by the SBA, a disaster declaration would make low-interest, long-term loans available to homeowners, renters, and businesses.

KDEM officials noted to qualify for the SBA disaster declaration, the state of Kansas must show at least 25 homes or businesses suffered major damage with 40-percent in uninsured losses.
