So it’s no wonder people are racing to their nearest charity shops to see what they can find – after the discovery of a dream dress in a Barnardo’s store.

A video of the dress in the charity shop was shared on the Barnardo’s Retail TikTok page, over the top of which was written: “POV: You’re going to a wedding in Italy and you found THE dress for £8 in a charity shop.”

The clip panned through the store before settling on the dress section, at the front of which was a bright chartreuse strappy number with floral patterning.

The stunning dress featured a cowl neck and asymmetric hem, with ruffles along the bottom.

The flowers were in blue, pink and green, and featured beaded detailing as well.

“I cannot cope with how beautiful this dress is,” they wrote in the caption.

Other fashion fans were quick to comment on the video, with one writing: “Omg she is a DREAM!”

“I LOVE,” another added.

As a third said: “OMG”.

While someone else had noticed another dress in the video, writing: “The pink gown!!?”

Items in the Barnardo’s stores go towards funding their charity work.

On the Barnardo’s website, they describe themselves as being “driven by supporting children, young people and families who need us”.

“When life gets tough or it feels like there’s nowhere to turn, we are here,” they write.

Top charity shop tips for bagging a bargain

Ross Dutton has been a manager for Crisis’s charity shops for four years and currently runs the charity’s Finsbury Park shop in London.

Choose your area – As a rule of thumb, the posher the area, the better quality the clothes that are donated.

Don’t hang around – If you see something you like, buy it, as it’ll likely be gone when you come back

Look out for cut-off labels – Some of your favourite high street stores will have deals with local charity shops to donate stock that isn’t sold during their own sales. Often part of the deal is that they need to cut the labels off the clothes.

Stay at home – While some charities have their own site, like Oxfam and Crisis. many also sell from dedicated eBay stores, such as British Heart Foundation and Scope. You won’t get the range of bargains that you would get in a physical store, but if you’re looking for something specific it may be worth checking online too.

“We make sure children and young people feel safer, happier, healthier and more hopeful, by directly supporting them and their families with specialist services, raising awareness and campaigning to change things for the better.”

And people often find gems in the local Barnardo’s stores too, taking to social media to boast about their finds.

In fact, charity shops as a whole have become increasingly popular in recent years, with people turning to the stores to find hidden items and bargain buys.
