Both Louisiana contestants on “The Voice” secured their spots in the Top 12 of the singing competition and will move on the live shows next week.

Coach John Legend picked Zoe Levert, who lives in New Orleans but also has roots in Baton Rouge, to advance after her emotional performance of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.

“I was ready to be moved in the moment, and Zoe did exactly what she needed to do,” Legend said, adding that that 21-year-old singer gets better and better with each performance.

Chance The Rapper said Levert’s performance was his favorite of the night.

Powerhouse Karen Waldrup, a Mandeville native, sang Lainey Wilson’s “Heart Like a Truck” and wowed the coaches.

Dan + Shay chose Waldrup to move forward, calling the country singer “consistent” and “someone you can depend on.”

Levert and Waldrup were both picked by their respective coaches in the Blind Auditions and have been chosen by them to move on in every subsequent round. Neither have had a chance to be stolen by another coach, including Chance The Rapper and Reba McEntire.

In the next round of the competition, viewers at home will vote on who advances and who gets sent home. The live shows on season 25 of “The Voice” begin next Monday on NBC.
