Judge says Alabama attorney general cannot restrict travel for abortions
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBRC) – A federal judge has ruled Alabama’s republican attorney general cannot prosecute groups that help women obtain out-of-state abortions.
Some of those groups sued Attorney General Steve Marshall after he suggested prosecuting groups that “aid and abet abortions,” including those who help women travel out of state.
The judge called interstate travel one of our most fundamental constitutional rights, adding that Alabama cannot restrict people from going to another state to engage in what is lawful there.
WBRC reached out to the Attorney General’s Office for a statement. We will update this article when we hear back.
